Johannesburg mayor, Herman Mashaba, has announced that there will be an investigation into the cause of a collapsing pylon that caused a fire this week.
The pylon toppled and broken cables then sparked the blaze. Roughly 100 homes in Alexandria were destroyed.
The mayor said that maintaining safety in informal settlements was a "challenge", but promised that the incident was being dealt with.
Several residents have since gone to work to rebuild the houses that were destroyed in the fire, but Mashaba insisted that the disaster should never have happened in the first place.
