Pilot forced to make emergency landing on roadside in Gauteng

Passengers aboard a flight got more of an adventure than they bargained for after the pilot made an emergency landing outside of Hammanskraal in Gauteng. The aircraft had experienced technical difficulties and he was forced to bring the plane down near the road.

Motorists were encouraged to proceed with caution while emergency services handled the situation. Although many road-users were fascinated by the incident unfolding before their eyes, police warned that stopping to spectate would add to the congestion and confusion on the roads.

South Africans managed to find humour in the situation and joked that the airline shouldn’t leave the plane there as they may return to find a wing had been stolen, Briefly.co.za read. Facebook user, Lee Doyle, wrote, “Don’t leave it overnight. You will find a Golf in that area with a jet engine. Others will be looking for a buyer for a wing.”

Another user, Jeff Douglas, joked, “Somebody will be over to sell the pilot some coathangers or a tortoise any second now.”

South Africans also applauded the pilot’s quick-thinking and ability to land the plane, thereby preventing any injuries.
