Home Affairs tells man to bring dead mom along to get ID

The Department of Home Affairs reportedly told a 45-year-old man that he needs to bring his dead mother along in order to receive his smart ID.

The man, Robert Masuku, found out that the he had accidentally been listed as an illegal immigrant, despite being born in South Africa.

Masuku claims he gathered all the necessary documents in order to apply for a new ID, but that Home Affairs still did not help him.

When he tried to resolve the issue, Masuku was told his mother had to come along to confirm his story. The only problem is, his mother passed away in 2008.

Masuku told GroundUp that he was frustrated and no longer knew what to do.
