Wessels refused, angering Hlonyana and the EFF.

The incident followed the EFF protesting at the University of Free State. Wessels called the EFF 'anarchists' in response to a video of two members littering while a student attempted to set a good example by picking up and throwing the trash away himself.

This took place during the protests against outsourcing employees at the university, Briefly.co.za discovered.
