Hawks waiting for India, UAE to respond to Gupta extradition request

The Hawks have said that India and the United Arab Emirates have yet to respond to their request to extradite the Guptas.

Additionally, the law enforcement unit said that they have selected a member to attend the Zondo Commission hearings in order to gather evidence.

A spokesperson for the Hawks added that some progress was being made into investigations related to revelations made at the Commission.

These include several allegations of corruption linked to Bosasa, as well the dubious contracts between Eskom and Gupta-owned Tegeta.

The spokesperson said that the Steinhoff scandal was also being investigated.

This follows mounting pressure from the public for action to be taken against those implicated in state capture, as well as Cyril Ramaphosa's comment this week that law enforcement agencies were free to investigate corruption allegations.
