Juliua Malema envisions the Economic Freedom Fighters in government after the May elections. The 'Red Beret' leader is eyeing mayoral committee positions in Johannesburg and even a mayor post in Tshwane, and he is willing to team up with his opposition to get it.
Julius Malema wants his party in government and his determination won't be dampened by having to make friends with the ANC or the DA:
“We will go into a coalition with anyone who is prepared to speak to that arrangement."
The Economic Freedom Fighter gave South Africans a glimpse into a possible party strategy, should the need to haggle arise after the May elections.
A coalition deal in, for example, Gauteng, with either opposition party, would see the EFF battering for MMC posts in Joburg or perhaps to take hold of the City of Tshwane.
Briefly.co.za reported earlier that the EFF had chosen to team up with the Democratic Alliance in both the above metros in 2016, keeping the ruling party out of the mix.
According to the Mail & Guardian, the post-Zuma landscape allows for the EFF to form coalitions with the ANC in exchange for strategic posts in the two key metros.

Should this come to pass, it would be the first time the EFF would be in government since its birth in 2014.
Malema seems to believe that his party stands a high chance of playing 'king-maker' after the ballots have been cast. Research reportedly backs his theory up and he will prepare for it in the meantime:
“Research shows there will be a possibility for a coalition. If you have a vision you ought to prepare for it now, what type of coalition do you want, what are the demands you are going to put forward.”
