Man wrongfully arrested for Senzo Meyiwa murder suing state for R17m

The man wrongfully arrested for the murder of Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa, is reportedly suing the state for over R17 million.

The man, Zamokuhle Mbatha, was arrested in 2014 and charged with killing Meyiwa.

Mbatha is suing for unlawful arrest, malicious prosecution and defamation and has filed court documents against the minister of police and the national director of public prosecutions, according to IOL.

Mbatha's lawyers reportedly claim that he initially filed to sue for R10 million in 2014, but is now demanding 15.5% interest for each year since then, amounting to a total of R17.7 million.

Meanwhile, no other suspects have been arrested in the Meyiwa case. The soccer player was shot and killed in 2014 in Vosloorus at the home of his girlfriend, musician Kelly Khumalo.
