A harrowing one-man-led school attack turned ugly when a police officer opened fire on an ex-learner.

Earlier on Friday, Briefly.co.za reported a video went viral which showed a gun man collapsing to the ground after a police officer discharged his weapon at him three times.

The video showed the young man attacking two cops and he ended up getting shot.

A lot of our readers believed the cops acted on their only option to protect themselves.

Bernard Tshepo commented: "The police officer had all the rights to shoot ...its clear the boy had intentions of hurting them and as he did to the state property also so weather he could have been shot anywhere still serious measures had to be taken either way ...police did their job and I personally salute the officer who had no choice but courage to do his work."
Fridz T Ranamane added: "The gun shot was only the solution...well done SAPS."
Koketjo Leshabane wrote: "Police officers are also human beings....why do some people feel like he wasn't suppose to shoot ...their lives also matter ..did you guys see the force the boy used to throw the brick at them."
Renier Erasmus said: "The cop actually gave the boy time to chill...What must he do..wait till he is attacked and hurt..No..! Copper dit the right thing.."
Genesis Nkosi Matiki commented: "Well done to our Officers, you did great, his intention was to endanger other pupils and teachers that's how animal must be dealt with put it down!"

However, there were those who felt the police officers could have handled the situation differently.

Lloyd Livi said: "The #Cop should have shot him in the leg kodwa,#trigger happy SAPS members."
TD Mahlangu added: "Gun was used unnecessary,lack of training and fitness should have blacksam this boy."
Prophetic-Favoured Segopa Ka Ngubeni wrote: "Police where supposed to leave and call for back up maan.not to shoot nyaope guy. 3 police 3 guns 1 nyaope guy tol case!"
