Social media users react to video of teen disrespecting older man

South Africans on social media were disillusioned after watching a video of a young school learner appearing to disrespect an adult man. A Facebook user, Blessings Ramoba, shared the video with the caption, "Something is clearly wrong in our society."

Although there is still uncertainty about who the boy in the video is or why he reacted disrespectfully towards the man, social media users were shocked and expressed their concerns on Facebook.

One user, Clayton Geo Lesar, commented that the only solution to the lack of discipline in schools is teaching children respect from the home. He added that we need to take responsibility for our actions to become a stronger nation, Briefly.co.za found.

Another user, Theunis Janse van Vuuren, remarked that corporal punishment in schools helped ensure that children understood the significance of respect.

"And to think that there was a time when corporal punishment at schools would have ensured that the children know that disrespect came at a price,” he wrote.

He added that respect and common courtesy are different and that children often lose respect because they were simply not taught to have manners.
