The South African Federation of Trade Unions is calling for former president Jacob Zuma to be arrested after the release of the findings of the investigation into the State Security Agency. SAFTU says that those implicated should be put on trial for possible treason.
SAFTU is joining the Democratic Alliance and Right2Know in the call for those implicated in wrong-doing at the State Security Agency to be arrested.
According to TimesLIVE, SAFTU wants former president, Jacob Zuma, ex-intelligence ministers, Siyabonga Cwele and David Mahlobo, and former SSA boss, Arthur Fraser, arrested for defeating the ends of justice and possibly even for treason:
"We call for the immediate arrest of Jacob Zuma, Arthur Fraser, Siyabonga Cwele and David Mahlobo, together with all those who helped them, and [for them to be] charged for defeating the ends of justice, including possibly for treason against the people of this country."
Briefly.co.za had reported earlier how the panel had revealed financial and operational abuse within the entity, including that civil groups and those who opposed the ex-president had been illegally spied on.
SAFTU released a statement in response to the report, claiming that the findings had not surprised them:
"We believe that the independent, democratic and campaigning federation has been one of the worse victims of the shenanigans the report is exposing,"

The panel is calling for an overhaul of the entire intelligence community to start over renewed. And it appears that the union shares this opinion:
"What the country needs is a new intelligence structure that will leave no stone unturned to get all of the known and unknown crooks that are responsible for pillaging - that has cost the economy billions of rands that we so desperately need to improve government services - locked up."
