A recent video has sparked huge debate as it shows a truck being looted by a mob of residents.
The footage shows at least 1 policeman walking past the looters with another police vehicle drives by.
South Africa Live shared the video on its Facebook page as they posed the question: “So we just going to ignore the fact that SAPS members walks past people looting this truck?”
The video was shared earlier today but has already been viewed 33 000 times.
South Africans reacted angrily to the footage and many lashed out at the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Trinidad Ferdinando Frez said, “The role of the police is to keep law and order and to always take charge where relevant. He should have controlled the situation. No property should have being looted.”
Micheall Johnny-boy Jansen added, “This people act like animals...disgusted police are disgraced.”
Briefly.co.za noted that some social media users leapt to the defence of the policemen.
Lehlohonolo Matlala said, “But how do you know they went passed? The video doesn’t show that. So admin tell me if you were the police official in the van what would you do since you have such brilliant insight and observation skills.”
Muziwakhe Sibiya said, “What did you want SAPS to do because when SAPS act you people complain saying they acted unprofessional.”
However, the vast majority slammed the police officers as well as the looters.
Jessy Agwu said, “Is it that bad in SA. How come blacks cannot it right .they want to govern themselves now look at the mess they have turned the place into.”
