Mamelodi Sundowns are hoping to be the first South African team to win 50 matches in the CAF Champions League.

Sundowns are aiming at making history this weekend in Morocco during their next game.

This follows Sundowns' win over Nigeria on Saturday, which brought their victory tally up to 49.

While Sundowns do not technically need the win because they have already qualified for the quarterfinals, breaking the record would be the cherry on the top for the team.

Along with their 49 CAF wins, Sundowns have 25 draws and only 20 defeats, according to the Sunday Times.

Sitting at second place in terms of total number of CAF wins is the Orland Pirates side, which has 36  -  a full 13 fewer than Sundowns. Additionally, only two other South African teams have won more than nine matches: SuperSport United with 11 and Kaizer Chiefs with 16.

With a previous CAF title under their belts from 2016, Sundowns appear to be gunning for the top spot once more.
