When he was eight, Sihle fell in love with drumming after watching drummers playing on TV and in church. Determined to follow in their rhythmic footsteps, the innovative young boy constructed his own drum kit using only buckets, coffee tins and bricks.
He taught himself to play and practiced every day after school, Briefly.co.za found.
Recognising his talents, his uncle, Itumeleng Setshedi, invested in the boy and bought him his very first drum kit for R3 500, inspiring Sihle to continue working on his skills.
Sihle is now 12 years old and has also taught himself to play the piano. He practices on the weekends and plays with fellow musicians at his church.
South Africans were stunned by Sihle’s dedication and ability to teach himself new instruments, expressing their pride on social media.
Facebook user, Phumlani Shazi, commented that Sihle plays better than many drummers he knows. Mduduzi Moyo remarked that support from parents and relatives goes a long way in encouraging young people to pursue their passions.
