Shock as 19-year-old Mondeor High School student fatally stabbed

A 19-year-old pupil at Mondeor High School near Johannesburg was stabbed to death today.

Paramedics arrived at the scene of the attack this morning and found that the student had sustained a stab wound to the chest.

The student was declared dead shortly after paramedics arrived.

This is the latest in a string of violent attacks on school learners over the last several weeks. The most high-profile of these was the murder of Thoriso Themane, but there have also been several attacks on learners at schools around the country.

According to the Gauteng Education Department, provincial Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, was on his way to the scene of the Mondeor stabbing to find out more information and to address the media, according to News24.

Additionally, Eyewitness News reported that police were at the scene of the crime searching for evidence. They say the victim's mother was also present.

Apparently, the student was stabbed in the morning while walking to school. However, no suspects have yet been identified.

A spokesperson said that police were looking for any information that could assist them in determining who was responsible for the attack.
