Briefly.co.za recently reported that South Africa is getting it's first Tsonga TV show. The drama, titled 'Giyani: Land of Blood', will star Yvonne Chaka Chaka. Mzansi social media users were extremely excited about the news.
One social media was excited for the opportunity to finally learn Xitsonga. Another Xitsonga speaker was happy to finally be represented.
A Facebook user named Pompon-Hervé Elijah Kitsisi was happy that Yvonne Chaka Chaka would be in it, wishing the legendary music icon success in her new venture.
There were a few who were not too pleased about a non- Tsonga actress being at the forefront of the show. Yvonne Chaka Chaka married into the Xitsonga culture, but she is not Xitsonga.
A social media user called the casting choice a "low blow."
Former Muvhango actor, Ndivhuwo Mutsila, musician Candy 'Tsa Mandebele' Mokwena, leading man, Fumani Shilubana, and Obed Baloyi are some of the actors cast in the show. The new show is set to debut on SABC 2 next month at 9.30pm. Legendary musician, Thomas Chauke, composed the theme song for the show.
