- The ANC's list of candidates for the election has sparked some outrage
- Many South Africans are unhappy with its inclusion of some candidates linked to corruption
- In particular, many people have taken issue with its inclusion of former Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba
The ANC recently released its list of candidates for the upcoming elections.
Some of the names, however, caused a stir because they have been linked to corruption.
Perhaps the most notable candidate is former Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba, who seems likely to return to Parliament just months after being forced to leave for lying under oath.
This follows the ANC's announcement that it would ensure that all its candidates had records of integrity.
Gigaba, however, has been accused of mismanagement during the Zuma administration, when he allegedly helped the state capture project take place, according to The South African. Under Gigaba's watch, massive state looting took place.
Several South Africans have expressed disappointment and even outrage over Gigaba's inclusion on the ANC list.
The IRR's Gareth van Onselen, for example, tweeted that about the list, saying, " That 60% Ramaphosa reform myth is looking more and more like… Ummm, what's the word? Oh, yes, a myth."
Another Twitter user, Ntuthuko Mdima, wrote that the inclusion of Gigaba on the list was essentially the ANC giving South Africa "the middle finger".
