The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation has called for Gauteng Sport and Recreation MEC, Faith Mazibuko, to be fired.

The organisation said it was "deeply perturbed" by Mazibuko's comments in the leaked recording which surfaced this week.

Mazibuko has since apologised for her comments, and said she is willing to accept any punishment the ANC decides is appropriate.

Eyewitness News has reported that, tn the recording, Mazibuko can be heard instructing employees to break the law in order to help the ANC win elections.

In particular, the Kathrada Foundation has taken issue with the way Mazibuko spoke to white and Indian employees, according to The Citizen.

The Foundation has said that her comments were sexist and racist in nature. Additionally, others have argued that Mazibuko's treatment of her staff was abusive.

The Director for the Kathrada Foundation, Neeshan Balton, added that the attitudes expressed by Mazibuko in the recording were the same which resulted in the Life Esidimeni tragedy, when 143 people at psychiatric facilities died due to neglect.

Balton also said that Mazibuko's apology (which Balton characterised as "halfhearted") was not sufficient to make up for what she had done. As a result, Balton said that the Kathrada Foundation would laying a formal complaint against Mazibuko at the South African Human Rights Commission.
