Politician questions ANC’s separation of party and state

Head of Politics and Governance of the Institution of Race Relations, Gareth van Onselen, expressed his concern about what he considered to be the conflation of party and state occurring in South Africa regarding aspects of expropriation without compensation (EWC).

van Onselen took to Twitter to question whether the ANC was ignoring the rule of separating party and state, upon learning that 30 farms that have been targeted for EWC in the case that Section 25 of the Constitution is amended.

According to ANC spokesperson, the selection was done to ensure that the land will be equally distributed to the province’s youth who are interested in working the land, only when the section is amended.

Twitter user, Rashaad Amra, pointed out that the issue raised by van Onselen has also been stressed by Mcebisi Jonas in the Zondo Commission. Amra asserted that he hoped South Africans were paying attention, so that they could make an informed opinion on the issue.

Nevertheless, van Onselen’s tweet seemed to dwindle into a fear-mongering thread ranting about the demise of Mzansi’s minority population group, in lieu of an well-thought out political debate amongst informed citizens.
