Executive Mayor Mluleki Ndobe has been arrested in connection with the murder of Sidiso Magaqa. The mayor is due to appear in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate's court today to answer for the 2017 murder of the former ANCYL Secretary General.
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed that Mluleki Ndobe, Harry Gwala Executive Mayor, has been arrested in connection with the death of Sindiso Magaqa.
According to Eyewitness News, the former ANC Youth League Secretary General had died in hospital after being ambushed and shot at, along with two councillors, in July 2017.
The task team, set up to investigate political murders in the province, reportedly apprehended the municipal manager, two ex-tactical response team members and a businessman on Saturday night.
The reasons for the arrest and what Ndobe will be charged with remain unknown. However, he is expected to appear later today in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate's court.

Mdumiseni Ntuli, ANC KZN Provincial Secretary, said that leadership figures in the region would be meeting soon to discuss this development.
