Caster Semenya bags gold in 5km Gauteng women's championship

South African star athlete, Caster Semenya, proved her mettle again this weekend when she won the women’s 5km race in the Gauteng North Athletics Championships. She bagged the victory in 16 minutes, 11.59 seconds.

28-year-old Caster Semenya ran to victory at the University of Pretoria on Saturday, 16 March when she won the Gauteng North Athletics Championships' women’s 5km event.

Caster eased into the victorious position and dominated the first few laps along with Carmie Prinsloo and Glenrose Xaba.

Then she slowly picked up her pace and started gaining the lead, as reported by IOL.

Caster finished the race in 16 minutes, 11:59 seconds.

Briefly.co.za gathered that the last three laps proved to be the most challenging for Glenrose and Carmie, who finished the race in 16 minutes, 53.61 seconds and 17 minutes, 11.13 seconds respectively.
