DA roasted for boasting about 'constitutional blacks' on party list

The Democratic Alliance has caused a stir amongst South Africans with a controversial claim that ‘constitutional blacks’ make up the majority of its parliamentary caucus list.

The DA rubbed up South Africans the wrong way with a controversial social media post.

The tweet was shared by Phumzile Van Damme (@zilevandamme), and it read as follows: “For the critics here are some facts: The DA’s parliamentary caucus will look significantly different from what it has looked for the fifth parliament. The list handed over by the DA IEC this week comprises 50.5% constitutional blacks, and 49.5% white people.”

Bemused South Africans questioned why the DA used the term ‘constitutional blacks’ and twitter user, @tumisole, was one of them.

He retweeted the post and it attracted a strong response.

Briefly.co.za noted that the term angered those in favour of and against the DA.

Many deduced that the term implied that ‘unconstitutional blacks’ existed as well.

The simple explanation is that the term refers to non-whites but the expression did enough to rub people up the wrong way.
