- Arsenal legend Ian Wright recently chatted with Bloemfontein Celtics
- He shard his thoughts on Percy Tau not receiving a UK work permit
- Wright said it was disappointing, as Tau was good enough to play for the premier league
Ian Wright of Arsenal fame paid a visit to Bloemfontein Celtics at their London Hotel.
Wright gave them a pep talk and shared some tips with the team.
He also weighed in on Percy Tau's recent struggle to get a UK work permit.
The South African players reportedly gave Wright a standing ovation when he arrived. They then engaged in a two hour question-and-answer session, with Wright sharing stories of his days in the premier league.
Wright also revealed some of his knowledge of South African soccer and gave the team some advice.
However, he acknowledged that the struggle for certain players to get UK work permits would pose a hurdle to South African teams, according to The Sowetan.
He added that the problem was that these work permit applications were being handled by government officials rather than football bodies who were familiar with the game.
He added that the government did not give players work permits based on talent, but rather on bureaucratic considerations and logistics.
Wright expressed disappointment that Tau was not given a permit, saying that Tau was in fact good enough to play for the premier league.
