A global health report has been released and the results were damning as South Africa was ranked as the unhealthiest in the world.
South Africans have become known for loving big meals and beers.
These factors have seemingly played a role in South Africa being rated as the unhealthiest country on the planet.
This is based on a global health report that was released recently.
Cause for concern, is the stat that South Africans have a 26 percent chance of dying from cardiovascular disease, cancer or diabetes, between the ages of 30 and 70.
However, there might be light at the end of the tunnel according to health expert, Giulia Criscuolo.
Speaking to ENCA, Criscuolo said we should see it as an opportunity to make positive changes to our lifestyles.
Criscuolo suggests a move away from take-away and processed foods.
She recommends a diet containing more natural foods, such as vegetables, fruits, legumes and healthy forms of protein.
Briefly.co.za noted the impact an unhealthy population has on the economy.
Criscuolo says that obese people are often less energetic and prone to illness and therefore has an impact on productivity.
It also puts a strain on the healthcare system as unhealthy people often rely on expensive treatment and medication.
