Princess Irene, wife of Mangosuthu Buthelezi, passes after long illness

Irene Audrey Thandekile Buthelezi passed away on Monday in KwaPhindangene after suffering a long illness.

The beloved Princess Irene is mourned by her family, including the couple’s three children.

Her family expressed their gratitude for the love and prayers pouring in from friends and South Africans wanting to pay their respects to a remarkable woman. They also requested that the public give the family their privacy during the difficult time.

The family also announced that funeral arrangements will be shared soon, Briefly.co.za found.

Having met during the struggle, Buthelezi and his wife had spent 67 long, loving years together. Buthelizi had previously described his beloved wife as “full of life, intelligent and kind”.

Bantu Holomisa, leader of the United Democratic Movement ,expressed his sympathies to Buthulezi and his family. Holomisa wrote that the family had been through a lot and wished her soul will find peace.
