- Khune admits it will be hard work to regain his number 1 jersey following Keet’s excellent display
- Keets' saves and a brace of goals by Percy Tau were instrumental in Bafana Bafana beating Libya to qualify for the 2019 Afcon
Itumeleng Khune has heaped praise on Darren Keet for his brilliance in yesterday’s match against Libya.
Following Keet’s outstanding display, Khune has conceded that the Bidvest Wits stopper could remain the Bafana Bafana number 1 for a long time.
Khune is set to return from injury in May, which leaves little time to be match-fit for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in June and July.
Khune said, “Darren Keet did extremely well. I wouldn't be surprised if he keeps the jersey for a long period of time.”
SowetanLIVE reported that Khune is welcoming the competition and that it keeps players on their toes.
Keet conceded a penalty in the 66th minute but made a series of unbelievable saves on the whole.
The 29-year-old’s fine display as well as a brilliant brace by Percy Tau were enough to seal victory for Bafana and qualification into the Afcon tournament.
After so many years of monopolising the goalkeeper jersey for Bafana, Khune will now be chasing the number 1 spot.
Briefly.co.za gathered that the battle between the two top keepers could be a major talking point over the next few months.
