- A new poll shows that Helen Zille is more popular among DA voters than Mmusi Maimane
- Additionally, the survey found that people would be more likely to vote for the DA if Zille took part in campaigning
- The poll was based on responses from 1 300 citizens
New surveys have indicated that Helen Zille is more popular than the DA's current leader, Mmusi Maimane.
The poll found that 58% of respondents would be more likely to vote for the DA if Helen Zille took part in campaign efforts.
One explanation cited for this was Zille's extensive leadership experience, compared to Maimane's .
The findings of the survey were in stark contrast to the way voters felt about the ANC's former leader. Polls have suggested that many South Africans would actually be less likely to vote for the ANC if Jacob Zuma took more of an active role in campaigning, according to The Citizen.
Additionally, the recent survey indicated that a full 52% of DA voters preferred Zille to Maimane, while only 30% preferred Maimane and 17% had no preference.
The findings were based on polling 1300 respondents.
It remains to be seen whether these findings will hold true on election day, but for now it indicates that the DA, and especially Maimane, may have some work to do to win over the confidence of some voters.
