- Fans assumed that Chi Mhende was fired from Generations: The Legacy
- It was assumed that her role had become redundant
- The show's publicist made it clear that she had not been fired, but chose to leave the show on good terms
Generations has been responsible for making superstars out of relatively unknown actors and actresses for years, however, it has also seen a lot of actors get the boot. Chi Mhende is now leaving the show.
In 2014, there were a number of actors and actresses that requested salary increases. The producers of the show did not take kindly to their application and 16 people were fired; this forced a revamp and the soapie was re-branded as Generations: The Legacy.
Briefly.co.za learnt that there have been rumours that Chi Mhende, who plays the role of Wandi, was axed from the soap. Chi’s last appearance will be on 29 April and fans have been pressing for an answer.
The assumption is that fans had become irritated by Wandi and that his place in the show, represent transgenders, was no longer needed. No clear reason was given as to why the character Wandi was written out of the show, until now.
Garaatwe Mokheti, Generations publicist, spoke to Move Magazine, explaining that Chi’s exit was amicable and peaceful and that she was not fired. She went on to say that Chi is a phenomenal actress and will make a success in whatever avenue she pursues.
It has been reported that Chi is currently working on a new theatre project, Chasing Chairs, at Joburg’s Market Theatre.
