We asked, you answered - readers share what keeps them in SA

Briefly.co.za asked readers to name one thing that’s keeping them in South Africa and the results were quite interesting.

South Africa has its fair share of problems and many citizens feel tempted to leave these beautiful shores.

Briefly.co.za conducted an online survey for our readers to name just one thing that keeps them in the country.

Not everyone agreed, but the overall results were heart-warming.

Julia Victoria Cosslett said, “I was born here and I love my country. There are a lot a good people in South Africa. It's our government that's the problem.”
Robert Niemand commented, “I was born in S Africa, that makes me an African. My parents work long hours but my black mom nursed us, fed us, cleaned us, thank god for her 48 years ago RIP. I will die here.”

Some readers are well-travelled and shared how they always miss home when travelling abroad.

Vusumzi Mbuthuma said, “I've been to other countries (too many to mention). And every time I was there I yearned for my space... where my blood is... where I want my bones to rest... SA is the best. The food. The accents. The landscapes. The big cities. The people (well, some people)... No place like [home] son!”
Maureen Mc Nabb said, “I was born in exile and my parents fought the struggle of this country. We are back in South Africa. This is our home.”
Zylma Vd Merwe Olivier added, “Did some travelling and there is no place like SA. Best country in the world. Africa becomes part of our soul. Nothing beats our sunshine, weather, country sides and people!”

However, not everyone was on the same page and some declared their dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.

Sonja Le Roux said, “I left 15 years ago and I am very glad I did because RSA is going downhill very fast.”
Kuster Mntambo Majova responded, “Actually we didn't even felt your absence, so stay wherever you are, keep watching. By the way, SA is for doers not lazy bums like you.”
Hannelie Roux said, “Unemployed and no funds to exit.”
Nikiswa Didishe added, “Take me with... tired of sitting at home with a degree.”
Titus Makale said, “I visited your country in December, I tell you RSA is the best, 10 times Kenya and other African countries. Clean, good working system, no corruption compared to Kenya. I love it.”
