Editor Adriaan Basson implies Ramaphosa exposé shows he’s not Stratcom

News24 editor-in-chief, Adriaan Basson joked that he was waiting or everyone who called him Stratcom on Monday, including Julius Malema, to once again call him Stratcom following News24’s exposé on Andile Ramaphosa.

Social media users felt Basson was biased in his coverage of politics and took a particular disliking to certain politicians, notable EFF leader, Julius Malema.

EFF supporters felt Basson was biased against leaders Julius Malema and Andile Mngxitama.

Malema responded to Basson’s post asserting that he was just a “racist young boy”, Briefly.co.za found.

Some users felt that Basson's rant proved his critics’ point, as any other journalist would not have felt the need to strongly assert their innocence. Many asserted that Basson would need to be consistent in who his publication wrote exposé’s on before he changes the minds of those who question his credibility.

One Twitter user, Sipho Mthiya, commented that Basson resides on a high horse and has a false perception of his superiority due to the colour of his skin.

Another user, Cashwell Phasa, remarked that South Africans did not rely on News24 to share the news about Ramaphosa but discovered the truth from the state capture inquiry as he felt this was more credible.

The reactions were not all negative, however, and many users expressed their admiration for the work Basson does, commenting that it must take courage to face the constant slew of personal attacks he receives for exposing politicians.
