Ntshingila says that it was not an uncommon occurrence for impatient customers to leave without paying and that a client had stiffed her with the R3 000 bill. A manager had called her in later in the evening, who accused her of pocketing the funds.
A female colleague had then been instructed to search her in a separate room, where the waitress had asked to retain some dignity:
"I remember indicating to her that I did not want to expose my body. She told me to remove everything,"
Ntshingila retold how she had explained that she was on her period, after which her co-worker told her to remove her pad and place it on the table.
The colleague reportedly commented that the pad had been full and told the waitress not to cry, this was just business.
Karabo Tau, general manager at the establishment insists that there had been no instruction for the waitress to be stripped naked during the search. The co-worker that conducted the search has been placed on immediate suspension.
