Footage of protests in 3 informal settlements in Durban concerns SA

Ongoing protests in three informal settlements in Durban have turned violent, shocking South Africans who took to social media to share the views on the disturbing footage from the scene.

Many shared their concerns on social media, expressing their sympathy for those affected.

A car dealership, along with a number of vehicles, were set on fire and several people were seriously injured in the chaos, Briefly.co.za found.

In addition to riots and stones being thrown, foreigners in Durban have reportedly been attacked. These attacks are believed to me related to a truck drivers’ protest, IOL reported.

South African Police Services in the region have described the situation as volatile after a woman lost her life fleeing protests while another was injured, News24 reported.

South Africans expressed their concern on social media.

One user, Thuso, claimed protesters tried to loot Springfield but management quickly locked the whole building which caused their frustration. He added rhat Sea Cow Lake Abahlali needs to be transformed into formal settlement.

Many users also felt that although the government could have helped prevent this, the violent protesters are criminals and should be sent to jail.
