ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa, shared an elderly woman, Gogo Mafa’s concern about the destruction of infrastructure and books of education institutions during protests.
The president shared a video of a discussion he and Mafa had regarding the protesting youth. Mafa questioned how young people will learn about and defend the history if institutions of higher learning are not preserved.

One Twitter user, Xolile, commented that the president should call out the EFF for fueling destruction during higher education protests. Another user, Patricia Mota, agreed with Gogo’s assertion and her tone. “Well said Gogo,” she added. “I am proud to be an African.”
Other users felt that violence and destruction during protests needed to be addressed, Briefly.co.za found.
Many users were distracted from the issue at hand and felt the ongoing xenophobia crisis was of greater concern. A few Twitter users expressed their views that Ramaphosa had fuelled the xenophobic tensions in Durban.
