Social media users heartbroken by young boy's living conditions

South Africans were heartbroken to see the home of a young boy named Jeffrey, whose story was shared on social media after asked a family for food.

A man and his sisters were having lunch when they were approached by the boy. Noticing he seemed malnourished, they asked to get to know him a bit better.

The humble young boy shared that his mother had passed away and now he stays with his brother, Tony, who sells phone covers. He says he travels from Xigalo, his village, to Malamulele Shopping Center every day to find food because they seldom have anything to eat at home, Briefly.co.za found.

The family decided to visit the boy’s home and discovered that the conditions were inadequate and not good for the boy’s health, particularly because he has a chronic illness.

The man and his sisters bought the boy groceries but feel that a long-term solution is needed and called on social media users to assist.

Facebook user, Thando Bocibo, felt that social workers needed to be involved in the matter and many users agreed and suggested people volunteer their time and not just money in order to change the boy’s life.
