A damning tweet pointed the finger at two police officers who could be seen walking away from a shop as it was being looted by residents.

The tweet was shared by twitter user, @AdvBarryRoux, and has attracted a host of comments from disappointed South Africans.

Briefly.co.za noted the social media responses and most were highly critical of the cops.

However, some felt the problem was bigger than merely the two officers.

At least some quick-witted social media users were able to see the funny side when they noted the name of the shop.

A few disturbing comments were shared alleging that police officers intentionally turn a blind eye when it comes to shops owned by foreigners.

However, others alluded to fear being the motive for the passive reaction.
