- Law professor Pierre de Vos claims Andile Mngxitama swore at him over the phone and called him a racist
- The BLF leader was reportedly calling de Vos for legal advice
- This was related to the BLF's current case involving the Freedom Front Plus
BLF leader Andile Mngxitama reportedly called constitutional law expert, Pierre de Vos, for legal help.
De Vos says that when he turned Mngxitama down, Mngxitama called him a "f***ing racist".
Mngxitama admits that he did swear at de Vos, but says he never asked for de Vos's assistance.
Professor de Vos explained his side of the story on Twitter. He says Mngxitama wanted his help in their current legal case against the Freedom Front Plus.
Freedom Front Plus wants BLF banned from this year's elections because of their policy of only admitting black people as members. Freedom Front Plus argues that this policy is unconstitutional.
However, Mngxitama says de Vos's version of events is not the whole story. The BLF leader said he did not contact for de Vos for help, saying he would "never use white lawyers", according to The Citizen.
Rather, Mngxitama says he wanted de Vos to sign on as a friend of the court because Mngxitama believed there were similarities between his case with the Freedom Front Plus and a previous case involving the Forum of Black Journalists.
De Vos had published his opinion regarding this case, Briefly.co.za has gathered.
Despite the legal challenge from the Freedom Front Plus, BLF has said that they will continue to uphold their blacks-only policy. They have insisted that they will not back down and will escalate the matter if the IEC tries to bar them from the election.
