- Lebohang Maboe of Mamelodi Sundowns says he should be one of the top candidates for the PSL Footballer of the Season prize
- He has been a key part of the team over the last several matches
- However, Maboe says he still has a lot of improvement to do
Mamelodi Sundowns' Lebohang Maboe says he feels he has done enough to be a contender for the PSL Footballer of the Season award.
The 28-year-old midfielder scored 8 goals in the last 22 Absa Premiership matches, along with 5 assists.
He is Sundowns' number one scorer.
Maboe admitted that it was not up to him to judge the best player of the season, but he said he believed he was one of the top picks. Despite his success this season, he says he still has a lot to offer and has aspects of his game which he needs to work on.
Maboe previously played with Maritzburg United. Some were initially unsure if he would perform with Sundowns, but he has since become an indispensable part of Pitso Mosimane's team, according Kickoff.
Additionally, Maboe has revealed that he can play more positions than just midfielder. He displayed his versatility by playing up front in several games, Briefly.co.za has learned.
Despite his confidence, Maboe still has a lot of work to do before the season is over. Sundowns is counting on him to perform in their next match against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League.
On top of that, Maboe faces stiff competition from several other players for the Player of the Season prize. No single player dominated the season, but several put in impressive showings.
