- A social media post incurred the wrath of EFF supporters as it seemed to indicate that Mamelodi Sundowns FC had aligned itself with the ANC
- The controversy was linked to the Sundowns match against Al Ahly and a post-match celebration
- The post went viral today as many sided with the football club and deemed it a misunderstanding
Tensions are clearly brewing as Election Day moves closer.
A social media post rubbed EFF supporters the wrong way as they deemed it as a sign of collusion between the Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club and the ANC.
The controversy surrounds the match between Sundowns and Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League tournament on Saturday.
Based on the marketing material, the post-match celebrations include an after party.
What infuriated the EFF followers is the fact that the flyer indicates an ANC-branded event and advertises free entry for those wearing either Sundowns or ANC t-shirts.
Twitter user, Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi (@MbuyiseniNdlozi), shared the flyers and accused the football club of aligning itself with the political party.
The tweep goes further by adding that Sundowns should rethink the strategy to avoid alienating EFF supporters who also support the football club.
Numerous others sided with the points raised in the tweet, but others shared a different perspective.
Briefly.co.za gathered that the upheaval seemed misplaced as Mamelodi Sundowns seemingly have no involvement with the ANC linked festivities.
