According to a recent report, one of the ANC's Secretary-General, Ace Magashule's close allies has been in hospital for 2 weeks after an attempt to poison him. This once again raised fear over political killings in South Africa.
A report claims that a close ally of Ace Magashule, the ANC's Secretary-General, spent 2 weeks in hospital after someone tried to poison him.
The Sunday Times reported that the man's name is Chris Ackeer and he has been Magashule's strategic manager at Luthuli House.
They've reportedly been close since Magashule became the Free State Premier.
Ackeer apparently initially thought he had an allergic reaction, and isn't sure how or when he was poisoned.
The hospital allegedly confirmed he was indeed poisoned.
I would not know what and where I ate this, but it was confirmed it was poison.
It is not clear at this time whether or not Ackeer opened a case with the police, or if he knows who was behind the poison attempt.
This report reawakens fears over political killings.
Just over a week ago, Briefly.co.za reported that the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Political Killings claims it has made progress in pursuing charges of political violence.

The IMC initially convened in March 2018 and claims to have made significant strides in addressing the violence since then. The statement came after the high-profile murder of Sindiso Magaqa, which was ostensibly politically-driven.
