A controversial video was recently shared via Facebook, which shows a violent altercation between groups of people.
South African Police Services (SAPS) officers seem to be under fire based on the footage.
It has been alleged that the officers were being assaulted by foreign nationals.
Although the video doesn’t show any graphic violence, it was enough to get social media users talking.
Angry South Africans lashed out at foreign nationals and demanded that cops be respected.
Briefly.co.za noted the viral reaction as the post attracted a staggering number of comments after it was shared by Intelligence Bureau SA.
Tshepo Mhlanga said, “Vote DA you won't see that happening.”
Thembela Ntsimango said, “These foreigners especially Nigerians do as they please in our country they have no respect at all and our GOV keeps on protecting them.”
Some called for calm and for all facts to be collected before assumptions were made.
Lucia Maluu Shika said, “Police in Sunnyside they are law on themselves they took bribes too much from this guys and les find out what happened first.”
IFe Emele Ma said, “Who ever posted this video needs to be arrested, what show that is foreigners attacking police?? We blacks need to stop this hate among us.”
Lourens Grobler commented: “Because government don't give a damn. No control at borders. 99% are illegal.”
There were some who felt the blame lies with the cops for not dealing with the situation.
David Gus Williams said, “I see weapons, use your firearm ffs!!”
Phil Papale said, “Community together with the foreign national have lost respect for these guys, specifically saps Sunnyside officers, they know their corrupt ways.”
