A gym cleaner, who has been identified as 23-year-old Karabo Thosago, has been hailed a hero after he saved the life of a swimmer.
A clip of the CCTV footage was shared on social media which showed Thosago heroically jumping into a swimming pool to save a swimmer from drowning.
Briefly.co.za saw the swimmer suddenly collapsed after doing a lap, Thosago spotted him, took off his jacket and jumped in to save him. A couple of bystanders then came to help Thosago get the regular gym-goer out of the pool.
News24 reported the heroic gym cleaner said he heard a yell and then saw the man floating in the pool.
“I was so scared, very scared… I’ve never seen something like that. I just thought that if I don’t jump in, then this person can die in a matter of seconds," he said.
South Africans praised the heroic actions of the gym cleaner and they praised him on social media.
Quinton Dupreez commented: "Can we just congratulate one person for doing the right...Regardless of skin color or job title...He did a Good Thing and for that I am grateful...Thank You!!"
Alan Smith wrote: "That is what South Africa should be like people of all color helping each other not killing each other.May Gods bleesing be on that man and his family!!!!"
Simo Luyasandah Shange added: "Well done may he be blessed now n forever... And also the ones that assisted him."
