ANC NEC member, Tony Yengeni, says that the DA mayor of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba, is a political lightweight.

Yengeni suggested that the DA may lose power in the city because of Mashaba.

This comes after Yengeni caught flak for sharing a photo on Twitter which seemed to imply that Mashaba needed to be necklaced.

Yengeni was responding to an interview Mashaba had given in which he said that South Africa needed border security in order to preserve peace in the country.

Mashaba also spoke about the Alexandra shutdown. He said the protesters were being egged on by ANC interference, according to The Citizen. He claimed that ANC councillors were playing a role in the protests.

Mashaba also alleged that the ANC was using the Alexandra shutdown to score political points against the DA, has gathered.

Yengeni criticised Mashaba for not personally visiting Alexandra to listen to the residents' grievances. Now, however, Mashaba says he will address the residents next week.
