Cristiano Ronaldo set himself apart from his peers with a remarkable 125th goal in the Champions League against Ajax which cemented his legendary status in the European club competition.

The 34-year-old has scored 41 goals in the quarter-finals onward, leaving Lionel Messi's distant total of 16 goals far away though still in second place.

The huge gap just goes to show Ronaldo's milestone in the continental competition having scored 25 more goals than Messi's impressive tally.

According to Sportbible, the five-time Ballon D'or winner has twice as many career Champions League knockout stage goals (64), than Ajax does as a club (31).

His impressive Champions League haul has surpassed great football legends including Raul, Filippo Inzaghi and Andriy Shevchenko.

Ronaldo is the only player in history also to have scored three goals in Champions League finals.

The Portuguese has proven on yet another big occasion that he is the man to reckon with.

He scored his 125th through a stylish diving header that beat Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onanana, thanks to Joao Cancelo's sublime assist.

However, Juventus' parade was ruined moments after the commencement of the second half, when David Neres netted the equaliser with a left-footed shot into the corner.

The reverse fixture will see Ajax travel to Turin on Tuesday, April 16, and challenge the Bianconeri at Allianz Arena for the golden ticket to the semi-finals.
