Doctors advised songbird Zahara to quit booze or face her own death

When Zahara opened up about her drinking problem (which she defeated), she didn't really let on how serious it was. Now it's come to light that she actually spent a month in hospital and faced death if she continued drinking.

Zahara bravely admitted to Mzansi that she had a drinking problem, but could proudly add that she's been sober for months now.

When the award-winning singer shared her story, she didn't really tell all - she kept it quiet that she actually had to spend a month in hospital in December last year.

City Press reported that Zahara's sister, Nomonde, revealed that the Mgodi singer had liver failure, and doctors warned she would die if she didn't stop drinking.

Nomonde added that December was a difficult time for the family, but they kept faith. The doctors told them Zahara's liver might recover if she quit booze.

The family is still supporting Zahara and makes sure she's never alone, in fear of a relapse.

Briefly.co.za gathered that Zahara's manager, Oyama Dyosiba, confirmed that she suffered alcohol-related health issues.

It seems now that Mzansi's lighthearted reaction to Zahara's confession was misinformed. She had a bigger problem than initially thought.
