Afrikaans singer, Kurt Darren, is trending on Twitter, and not because people like his music. He was chosen to sing the country's national anthem at the Varsity Cup final between Maties and Tuks but fuddled the words.
Afrikaans pop singer, Kurt Darren, was chosen to sing the national anthem at the final match between Stellenbosch and Pretoria Universities at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.
However, the crowd, excited to watch the Varsity Cup, were left speechless when Darren completely messed up the words.
The singer started off alright, and sang the first verse confidently, but when he started the second verse, things went wrong, as also reported by News24.
Darren messed up the lyrics, leaving South Africans disappointed and angry. People were disappointed that the singer didn't prepare to sing the anthem and didn't know the words.
Briefly.co.za found that for others, it was a slap in the face of all South Africans and those who fought for the freedom to have many languages in the anthem.
Mzansi took to social media to share how they feel about Darren, and they did not hold back.
