A woman has taken to social media to share how her downgrading from a luxury Mercedes Benz to a smaller vehicle has saved her almost R10 000 per month.
Christelle Coleman shared a picture of her new set of wheels, a second-hand Fiat 500, on Twitter. She went on to explain that changing from a Mercedes Benz has saved her a large amount of money a month.
She added that the decision has enabled her to travel overseas and buy herself expensive gifts.
Many social media users applauded her decision. Dimitri Kapelianis said:
"Cars are depreciating assets; buy them lightly-used. Don't compare your lifestyle to others: assets are visible, debt is invisible."

Others wished they had made similar choices earlier in life. Twitter use Nomfie said:
"Where was this tweet a couple of years ago??! But today is definitely a turning point for me. Thank you for this Chris."
Nomvelo Mthembu-Dyas also shared similar sentiments:
"I wish I had learnt these lessons 5 years ago. I succumbed to the pressure of having a big car, "What were you thinking when you were buying such a small car" remarks."
Tumi Nkosi, however, said his ego was not yet ready to downgrade his lifestyle.
"My ego and I are not there yet, but we are making slow progress towards the light. It is the three-pointed star until then."
