- Clinton Frans and Kaelyn Dyson got engaged at the Melomed Gatesville Private Hospital in Cape Town
- The proposal followed a near-fatal crash Frans suffered, which resulted in the amputation of his left leg
- According to the soon-to-be groom, the accident made him realise he wants to spend the rest of his life with Dyson
Life is short and it can end at any moment so it is important to life each day to the fullest. This is something Clinton Frans realised after he nearly lost his life in a bike accident on Wednesday, 10 April.
Frans was involved in an accident between the N2 and Vanguard Drive last week. According to IOL, he was rushed to Melomed Gatesville Private Hospital where specialist doctors immediately gave him the necessary medical care.
However, although Frans survived the ordeal, doctors had to amputate his left leg just below the knee. The near-death experience made Frans realise he wanted to spend his life with Dyson.
Briefly.co.za learned the hospital helped organise the special event and after he was taken off the ventilator, Frans planned to pop the question.
Frans explained the two met in high school through mutual friends, who were there to help him set up the proposal.
He added that Dyson, who is two years younger than he is, has been there for him through a couple of accidents and even though he lost a part of his leg, she still loves him like she had before the accident.
"Kaelyn has seen me through quite a few accidents, and especially with this one where I lost half my leg. One of the reasons this stands out for me most is because she showed me that it is not about physical appearance, but that she wants me, and that I'm still the same guy whether I have half a leg or not," he said.
On Facebook, Frans and Dyson were met with congratulations messages and their friends also wished him a speedy recovery.
Meagan Xena Baumann commented: "Congratulations beautiful pair that just became one... Speedy recovery old friend."
Nicole Taylor-Kannemeyer added: "Congratulations to the both you. Wishing you all the best. God's blessings."
Mushfeeqah Stevens said: "I cried. Such a beautiful moment."
Taybah Taliep wrote: "I'm so sorry to hear about your accident..Congratulations to the both of you. That was so beautiful."
