Mzansi actress, Nomzamo Mbatha, believes the Isibaya character, Thandeka Zungu, is what helped her establish herself in the art history books.
The actress spoke to TshisaLive recently about how her character Thandeka touched her, taught her and changed her life for the better.
Nomzamo said at first she didn't think her character would have had such a retrospect effect on people. She added that as an actress she had the responsibility of portraying a young black woman in the most authentic way possible.
"She’s been my saving grace and literally, I clearly need to add her name on my ID!"
Her character Thandeka lived through many storylines in the show, but the one that touched Nomzamo the most was when Thandeka's husband Sbu wanted a second wife and made another woman pregnant.
Nomzamo said that infidelity part was really hard for her to work through.
"Infidelity is always a strong and continuous conversation among women and men and I was being stopped everywhere by couples, by men, by women... I received e-mails from people telling their story. It was huge."
When asked about her co-directing a microfilm, Nomzamo said the experience was amazing and working with world-class actors like Zola Nombona and Sdumo Mtshali made her fall in love with the experience.
"I definitely want to direct more. I loved it! And it’s sitting close to 2 million views on YouTube."
