Part of her success was down to her reaching out to various brands and companies to source funding for her studies.
Her beautiful story went viral via social media after it was shared on the Humans of New York Facebook page.
Now, the young lady has come full circle in her quest to assist young South Africans get into the field of aviation.
With the help of her colleague, Joseph Lebitsa, she founded the Aviation Development in Africa (ADA).
Through her non-profit organisation, she’ll be hosting a career day on 27 April in Soweto for young aspiring pilots.
The Daily Dispatch reported on the hard work Katisi is putting into the event.
She’s already reached out to academic institutions, corporates and even the president in her attempts at securing sponsorship for young South Africans.
ADA aims to host 1 500 learners on the day and it will feature stands from the various participating organisations and educate youngsters on the funding options at their disposal.
Katisi has been very active on social media as she creates awareness of the event and revealed that it forms part of her birthday celebration.
