Fikile Zungu, who hails from Soweto, was a cleaner for 10 years. Through hard work and a little bit of luck, she reached for the stars and landed a job as a culinary chef. Her rags-to-riches story can be an inspiration to many.
Fikile moved to Belgium in 2010 where she worked as a domestic worker for the South African Embassy.
Her self-taught culinary skills and appetising meals won the heart of the South African Ambassador in Belgium, who insisted Fikile become his official cook.
Fikile's love for food started when she was very young. However, the obsession led her to battle with obesity for most of her life. To overcome this, Fikile started the banting diet, which has since helped her lose 21kg.
Her journey from domestic worker to cooking for ambassadors is penned in her soon-to-be-released recipe book, Maid2Cook.
