- Criminals have found a new way to steal money from ATMs and the footage was caught on camera
- The video shows how thugs use an excavator to smash the ATM and load the safe into their vehicle
- South Africans watched the footage in horror and feared an increase in the number of robberies
There’s many things South Africans can be proud of, but our crime rate isn’t one of them.
Mzansi’s criminals are renowned for their innovative approach to theft, but a recent video could spark fresh ideas.
South Africa Live shared a video via their Facebook page, which shows how thieves use an excavator to steal the money from an ATM.
The video shows the excavator being used to destroy the ATM and the safe is then loaded onto their getaway vehicle.
Social media users looked on in disbelief as the video has been viewed 27 000 times since Thursday.
Briefly.co.za gathered that many South Africans feared the worst after witnessing the footage.
The crime was perpetrated in a different country, but some wondered if it would inspire similar scenes closer to home.
Thierry Mala said, “This is serious Matter.”
Nambahu Neshuku said, “South Africa is finished.”
Judy Basson added, “Next level... wow how brazen.”
Based on some of the responses, the footage was taken from an incident in Northern Ireland.
Fiona Bennett Lewis said, “There was 15 atm stolen, in the past few months between North and South of Ireland. They also used stolen jcb, and flat beds.”
Onalenna Mbenda commented, “We all against crime at any level but for this one, fair deal because nobody lost life there.”
Zakhele Mazaka Nxumalo added: “I like how they load it in the car ha ha ha.”
